The Reunion
For the first time since his joining the military on January 8, 1942, only one month after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, it was the fist time James got to see his wife. After being drafted into the Navy, it did not take long for him to miss her. The war was gruesome and had him feeling melancholy, from watching many of his friends perishing at the hands of enemy vessels to the constant fear of aerial attacks; however, the only light for James in the otherwise vast darkness of the war, was the idea of seeing his wife. Thus, his lounging for the wars end only increased giving him a sort of sadness that most people eventually started to feel. The day James heard of the wars end and that he would be sent back home, brightened him back to the happy man he once was previously to the fight. They would meet on the streets of New York City where the soldier’s would march through the town and be greeted by citizens and family. When he first saw her, James was too happy to speak. He did the only thing that felt natural; he grabbed his wife tight in his arms and hissed her for what felt like an eternity.
The Convoy
We have been driving for almost 100 miles and I grow weary every moment with the likeliness of enemy attack. My three car convoy is carrying over 500 hundred guns for an Allied base; thus, we are a prime target for Russian attack. The Great World War has been going on for over three years now and seems to have no stopping point in the near future. After one close call where my vehicle ran over a landmine, blowing off the front bars, everyone seems to be very quiet. After hearing the orders to lead the convoy only 12 hours ago, I was told to assemble my squad and begin the mission immediately; however, I was also told about the possibilities of enemy attack. Since my convoy most pass through enemy territory to get to the Allied base, we were informed of a 72 percent chance of a attack form Russian aircraft and a 81 percent chance form soldiers. As I continue to drive forward, I try to forget these odds and pray for the best.
